Atelier- und Medienhaus
Media Studio House
FENNster adresses artists of all branches, whose work includes digital technology. This can be music, photography, projections, light, sound, design, and live performance as well as their fusion in any form. A particular focus is on the experimental section between communications technology and the arts.

FENNster is equipped with a professional recording studio.

Initiator and founder of FENNster is multi-media artist, composer, and conductor Thomas Wilbrandt.

The idea of FENNster is based on the principle of Tradition + Innovation = Future. All art currently produced is necessarily based on artistic tradition. The extraordinary technological revolution of the last decades poses elementary questions: What is art in the 21st century? How can quality be defined? Are traditional means of presentation not obsolete?

FENNster is conceived as a unique network of synergies addressing the challenges posed by the production and communication of cutting edge art. The exploitation of highly developed technologies in the arts encompasses basic reflections on the adequacy of current strategies of presentation. How and where the artwork can be received, its public impact, popularity and sustainability amidst our growing immersion in information technology, stand at the centre of this focus. Must art be newly defined?

FENNster welcomes all international applications for the studio units that may be used as offices, workspace and/or live-in studios with communal washing and cooking facilities.
Applicants are required to send an email request to FENNster together with a link to a personal or gallery website.
The applicants will be selected according to the potential and strength of their work. Operative language is German but requests can also be written in English and French. When applying, please state specific space requirements.

The building at Fennstrasse 9-11 offers basic opportunities to present exhibitions and experimental productions. The spaces can be rented; conditions depend on the individual project and its requirements.

FENNster offers non-remunerated internships throughout the year. Applicants are required to have aspirations to work in an artistic or cultural context. They further need a good command of German and English, both spoken and in writing. Please apply via email.

Located in Berlin Treptow, the admirably restored listed house was built in the Expressionist style by architect Willy Hoffmann as a post and telegraph office (1924-1927). The public post office was closed in 2001, the ground floor however is still used by the Deutsche Post as a sorting office.

FENNster is easy the reach: the building is approximately 5 minutes on foot from S-Bahn station Schöneweide, 8 stops on public transport (S-Bahn) and approx. 10 km from Berlin Alexanderplatz. The building is 5 stops from Schönefeld airport and equally close to the new central BBI airport (should it ever open!). Berlin Adlershof, City of Science, Technology and Media (WISTA) ist just 2 stops away. The house is just a few yards away from the river Spree.
The district of Treptow is situated south east of the town centre and has become a popular area for artist studios. The University of Applied Sciences (HTW), the Karl Hofer Society (Friends of the University of the Arts), the Culture and Technology Centre Rathenau, and further studio houses are at walking distance. The house is situated in a spacious residential area, with small shops, restaurants, and bars as well as a comprehensive shopping centre next to the S-Bahn station.

The building has 4 levels and an extensive basement. All floors are accessible via 2 large stairwells, and a newly installed elevator.
The first and third floors comprise 14 studio units between 15 and 70 m2.
Communal kitchen and bathroom areas are located on the third level.
In addition to the studios, FENNster has 2 apartments of 90 and 100 m2 each. Basement units for extra storage are also for rent if necessary.
